Social Learning (Task 2)
Task 2 requires us to create a social group and then instruct a peer how to gain access to and contribute to the created site. I will need to explore several social networking sites and choose the most appropriate one to construct my social group with. After creating my social group, I will need to consider different ways of delivering instructions to my peer via multimedia. The peer student will follow my instructions and then complete a peer review on my work, while I carry out the same task with someone else's work.
My Social Context
Something near and dear to me is the challenges facing deaf children and their parents and families and teachers. I have a five year old deaf daughter, and over the years we have built an outstanding network of helpers and teachers and supporters that I absolutely could not live without! I think support is an immensely important aspect of giving your deaf child (or any child) the best possible start in life, so I am aiming to create a social group for parents of deaf children.
About Mixxt
After trying several other social media sites, I stumbled upon Miixt, which had so many features to choose from that you could build absolutely any type of social site with it. It was also very user friendly. It allows you create a social group where members can share just about anything, from pictures to links to discussions to videos and much more.
About Listen2Me
My social group is called Listen2Me. It is designed for parents raising deaf children, however anybody can join. Members can join in the discussion forums, or start new discussions about their deaf child(ren) and their concerns, questions, ideas or anecdotes. They can also post pictures or videos, write a blog, create and see upcoming events, and look through links that other parents of deaf children have found helpful, or add their own links to the list.
